I had a lovely few days in Wisconsin courtesy of Travel Wisconsin. During my time there, I experienced relaxing hotel stays, delicious culinary treats and many fun things to do. Enjoy this mini travel guide to Madison, Wisconsin and experience America’s Dairyland through my eyes.

On Wisconsin!

Welcome to Madison, Wisconsin, the grand old badger state. Madison, Wisconsin, is the capital city of Wisconsin and is known for its vibrant cultural scene, beautiful lakes, and the home of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Madison is also home to the famously known for the Dane County Farmer’s Market.

Let’s Chill

My time in Madison began at The Park Hotel Madison. The Park Hotel Madison is the only Capitol Square hotel in the city, meaning the best of Madison happens right outside your window. The Dane County Farmers Market, Art Fair on the Square, Concerts on the Square, Taste of Madison, and the Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon are some events on Capitol Square. My room at The Park Hotel Madison had a beautiful view of the Capitol and featured spacious accommodations, luxurious bathroom space and a living room area.

If you go: Grab a bite to eat or a late-night cocktail at the on-site restaurant and bar, The Post. The Post is named in recognition of George Post, the celebrated architect who designed the Wisconsin State Capitol built in 1917. I had breakfast at The Post and ordered the oatmeal bowl and the avocado toast.

Let’s Eat

Madison, Wisconsin’s culinary scene focuses on farm-to-table and locally sourced ingredients. The city is known for its love of cheese, and you’ll find cheese-centric dishes like cheese curds and artisanal cheese plates.

If you go:

  • Make a stop at Fromagination. Fromagination was established in 2007 by Kenn Monteleone as a way to showcase the cheese-making heritage and growing artisan food movement of Madison. My visit to Fromagination included a tour, cheese education from the cheesemongers and a hands-on cheese tasting. If you visit around lunchtime, grab a sandwich or salad from their menu.
  • Have dinner at Tornado Room Steakhouse. The Tornado Room Steakhouse is an old-school steakhouse with a rustic, supper-club vibe serving classic chops, seafood and cocktails. I ordered the
  • Opt for a sweet treat at Good News Cafe and Ice Cream. They have artisanal ice cream, including flavors like Mexican hot chocolate, strawberry balsamic and fig and honey.

Beer is the go-to drink in Madison, Wisconsin. Madison has a wide variety of breweries and pubs serving up both traditional and innovative brews. One of the best places to grab a drink is the Memorial Union Terrace. Here, you can find ample seating, live music and lake views. This relaxed and social environment is perfect for savoring craft beers and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.

Let’s Shop

One of the most popular activities in Madison is the Dane County Farmers’ Market. The Dane County Farmers’ Market is one of the largest producers-only farmers’ markets in America. Depending on the season, you can enjoy their indoor or outdoor market experiences filled with food and floral vendors, crafters and specialty stands.

If you go:

  • Grab a loaf of spicy, cheesy bread from Stella’s.
  • Enjoy a bite from the many food truck vendors surrounding the market.
  • Pick up a beautifully vibrant bouquet from floral vendors selling gorgeous fresh flowers.

Madison is a special place and leaves a lasting impression. The charm of this town, coupled with the vibrant food scene, makes it the perfect stop on your Wisconsin itinerary.
