I produce weekly culinary tips for the Table for Two show on WOND Radio. This week’s culinary tip is about stocking a winter pantry.
With snowy, Wintery weather officially here, there’s no better place to be than in a warm, cozy kitchen making something tasty. Stocking your pantry with the right supplies allows you the freedom to cook delicious comfort food under any weather conditions.
The perfect Winter pantry is about more than just having flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, or baking soda. When it comes to canned goods, grab your favorite canned items such as tuna, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, a variety of beans such as kidneys, black beans, lentils, and canned stocks.
Having grains and starches on hand is a must for stocking a Winter pantry. Stock up on things like quinoa and steel-cut oats. Another favorite includes a variety of rice and pasta. They’re easy to store, delicious, and easy to cook with on the fly.
Another pantry staple is dried herbs for flavor. Grab items like dried bay leaves, basil, parsley, sage and oregano. And don’t forget your favorite nuts. My pantry has plenty of walnuts, almonds, roasted peanuts and peanut butter.
