I say it every year, this Summer has flown by. I can’t believe we are one week away from school starting. This is a big year for us as we have two children entering elementary school. My oldest son will be going into the third grade and my youngest son is starting first grade.
This will be the first time my son has to go through a school day with snack breaks. Since he started preschool he always had a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. My little guy certainly likes to eat so I will be counting of high protein breakfast and after-school snacking ideas to keep him fueled for school and get him through the day.
Like my Latin mom used to always say, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” I find myself sounding like her more and more each day. Just like my mom used to do, I like to make sure my boys eat well in the morning. I love offering hot breakfasts but don’t always have the time. For those moments when I am short on time, I count on Jimmy Dean® breakfast sandwiches. Jimmy Dean® breakfast sandwiches are delicious, satisfying, high quality breakfast solutions for the perfect start to any morning. I like to pair the sandwiches with fresh fruit and a drinkable yogurt for even more nutritional value.
After-school snacking is definitely something I need to pay attention to. Our school offers a small window for lunch, meaning he doesn’t have a lot of time to eat a big meal at lunch. He will likely be starving when he gets home so he will need a high protein snack to give him the energy he needs for homework and his after-school activities, like soccer and baseball. I like to have lots of variety and will offer things like deviled eggs, mini pita pizzas, nuts and popcorn, and my childhood favorite, corn dogs.
State Fair® Brand produces a variety of delicious corn dogs featuring a signature honey-sweetened corn bread batter.
Do you feel overwhelmed when it comes to breakfast or after-school snack ideas? I like to keep this handy High Protein Breakfast and After-School Snacking Ideas list taped on the inside of my cabinet or on my refrigerator for a go-to list of items (click on the link for a printable). I find that keeping this list is a convenient and visible location makes it easier for me when I am struggling for ideas, or for those days when my husband has to get the kids ready for school or off the bus.
