Music and Wine
Music and wine go hand-in-hand.
Just like that first sip of your favorite wine brings you back to the first moment you tasted it – you remember every detail of where you were, who you were with and what you were doing – music has the same quality. Music can immediately take you back to a moment in your life when you were feeling a certain emotion or a time when you felt your best – or your worst.
Nothing makes me happier than getting together with a group of friends over a bottle of wine and listening to some of our favorite songs. I love hearing stories from my friends about why they like a certain song, whether it reminds them of high school, college or maybe a first date. We laugh, sometimes cry and get to know one another on a deeper level, bonded together by our love of music and wine.
About Cambria Winery
Cambria Winery recently took the relationship between music and wine one step further with their Notes of Cambria series where they explored the connections between taste and sound to elevate the wine tasting experience.
Cambria Wines partnered with musician Kalei Yamanoha to bring to life to two of their flagship wines the Cambria’s Benchbreak Chardonnay and the Cambria’s Benchbreak Pinot Noir by using them as inspiration for an original music creation, the “Chardonnay Shanty” and “Pinot Noir Waltz.
These musical pairings are a brand new approach to experiencing, learning, and talking about wine to encourage conversation and exploration. You can see how the experience unfolded in the video below.
Cambria’s Benchbreak Chardonnay and the Cambria’s Benchbreak Pinot Noir are estate grown and bottled, high quality, immensely flavorful wines that are expressive of California’s Santa Maria Valley, the wine-growing region where they’re from.
Kalei breaks down how he used these two wines as inspiration in the following infographics:
It’s truly a beautiful thing to see how Kalei was inspired by the wines to create such beautiful music. Watch the full four-part Notes of Cambria series for yourself and see how they make you feel and what inspiration you can pull from the wine and the music.
My Wine Night Playlist
I found inspiration in the Cambria’s Benchbreak Chardonnay and the Cambria’s Benchbreak Pinot Noir myself and decided to come up with the ultimate wine night playlist for your next wine night or social gathering. I tend to listen to music that touches my soul and tells a story. My music taste is a little funky and all over the place. Here’s what I’m playing when sipping on a nice glass of Benchbreak Pinot Noir (I’m a red wine kind of girl). You can download my playlist from Apple Music here.
- You Are the Best Thing, Ray LaMontagne
- He Can Only Hold Her, Amy Winehouse
- Nirvana, Sam Smith
- The Story, Dolly Parton
- Son of a Preacher Man, Dusty Springfield
- Good Time to be Alive, Lady Antebellum
- Wild Horses, The Sundays
- Power of Two, Indigo Girls
- Better Man, Little Big Town
- Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl, Wet
- Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Frankie Valli
- Cold Little Heart, Michael Kiwanuka
- Meet Me In the Middle, Jessie Ware
- Just Be, Paloma Faith
- Angels, Robbie Williams
What’s on your Wine Night Playlist? I love music so much (I often say I missed my calling and should be working in the music industry) and literally love all types of music. I’m always looking for new artists, like Kalei, and new music. I literally have every type of music streaming subscription out there and I always, always, always have music playing so do me a solid and share some of your favorites.
