While on a one-on-one trip to London with my teenage son, Evan, I partnered with The Tour Guy for a London in a Day Tour. The Tour Guy hosted me on this experience.
I just returned from one of my favorite trips. I was privileged to go on a solo, one-on-one trip with my 17-year-old son, Evan. This is a goal I have had for a very long time: to travel alone with each of my sons. It was a true gift. Evan and I decided to go to London. We chose London because of zero language barriers; he is a huge tea lover and loves foods like fish and chips and bangers and mash. It was an easy decision.
Evan and I had a list of must-do tourist spots and activities. We wanted to maximize our time to leave room for non-traditional things to do and day trips—like this day trip to Brussels, Belgium. So, when The Tour Guy reached out asking us to partner on a tour, it was a no-brainer.
After going back and forth on tour options with The Tour Guy, I chose the London in a Day tour with The Tour Guy. This tour hit many of London’s most historic sites with a guide who knew everything about London. Our tour guy was Toby; he had plenty of stories to keep our group entertained throughout the day.
Stop 1: Westminster Abbey
Our tour began at Westminster Abbey, a renowned historic church in London. It is famous for its stunning Gothic architecture and royal connections and as the traditional venue for coronations and other significant ceremonies in British history. We checked out the architecture, tombs of the famous people buried there and the coronation chair.
Stop 2: Horse Guard Parade and Buckingham Palace
The London in a Day Tour is a walking tour. The next stop was a quick stop to check out the Horse Guards Parade and Buckingham Palace. The Horse Guards Parade is a ceremonial square in London known for its iconic horse-mounted guards. It is adjacent to Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarch, and attracts millions of visitors annually for its historic significance and impressive architecture.
Lunch Break: St. Stephens Tavern
We made our way back to Parliament Square for a lunch break. Lunch was not included in the tour, so we were on our own. We happened to stumble upon a great spot, St. Stephens Tavern. St. Stephen’s Tavern is a historic pub in Parliament Square, London, offering classic British pub fare. It is known for its traditional Victorian architecture and its proximity to the Houses of Parliament. We ordered local drinks, traditional Bangers and Mash and Steak and Tangle Foot Pie.
Stop 3: River Thames Boat Ride
Next was the River Thames boat ride to see London from a new perspective. We passed spots like the London Bridge before ending up at the final stop on the tour.
Stop 4: London Tower and the Crown Jewels
We headed to the infamous Tower of London to discover its bloody history. The Tower of London, a historic fortress stands as an iconic symbol of London’s rich history. It houses the Crown Jewels and serves as a former royal residence, prison, and execution site. We got to hang with the Beefeaters and resident crows. The Tower of London Beefeaters are ceremonial guardians of the Tower, responsible for guiding tours, sharing its history, and safeguarding its treasures.
The Tour Guy’s London in a Day Tour ends right across the famous Tower Bridge. Before leaving the tour, we grabbed a few pics from the Tower of London grounds.
