If you didn’t already know, I have an awful cold. While I normally like to think I am pretty tough when it comes to being sick this cold is making me miserable. I have been tending to my cold by eating lots of vitamin C rich foods, drinking plenty of fluids and washing my hands often. After several days of pure misery I finally decided to make myself a Green Tea Hot Toddy.
Green tea is often my tea of choice and this Green Tea Hot Toddy Recipe provides me with lots of relief. The ingredients are simple and include things you most likely already have in your home. Ingredients are:
2 cups water
3 slices of orange
3 slices of lemon
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon whole cloves plus additional to pierce orange and lemon wheels
2-3 thinly sliced pieces of ginger
1.5 ounces of whiskey (or brandy)
1 tablespoon honey (or more for taste)
1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
To prepare my Green Tea Hot Toddy Recipe I begin by boiling two cups of water in a small saucepan with 2 slices of orange, 2 slices of lemon, the cloves, sliced ginger and cinnamon stick.
Once the water comes to a boil I then the whiskey, honey, and coconut oil (optional). Line the bottom of a teacup with 1 orange slice and 1 lemon slice which is pierced with additional cloves and a green tea tea-bag. Strain the water-whiskey-honey-coconut oil blend and pour it over the green tea tea-bag and citrus slices. The Hot Toddy will be very hot. Sip slowly.
This Green Tea Hot Toddy Recipe includes many cold-soothing ingredients to provide some relief for the nastiest of colds. For example:
Green Tea is known to have many healing properties and helps neutralize free radicals and is a super antioxidant. Tea in general is great for colds but I like the added bonus of green tea
Citrus (orange and ginger) is rich in Vitamin C
Honey helps calm the scratchy throats that often accompany colds
Cloves, Ginger and Cinnamon helps relieve congestion and is great for bronchitis
Whiskey (or Brandy) helps you sleep
Coconut Oil (optional) has immune system building qualities and also helps to relieve chapped lips when added to the tea. I tend to suffer from chapped lips when I have a cold so I like to take a sip of the tea and then lightly rub my lips together to help hydrate my lips.
This Green Tea Hot Toddy Recipe makes about 3-4 servings. Please note, the Green Tea Hot Toddy should only be served to adults 21 years of age or older and you should not drink this before operating a vehicle or heave machinery.
I hope you stay nice and healthy this winter but if you find yourself a little under the weather find some relief with this Green Tea Hot Toddy Recipe.
