Are you excited for winter? I am, and to celebrate the holiday season quickly approaching I partnered with Shari’s Berries for their newly released, Toast the Season collection, full of berries inspired by holiday cheer. With all the winter flavors suddenly in season again, I thought it would be perfect to pair their new berries with a delicious winter cocktail – a Strawberry Jam Riesling Cocktail.
Wine cocktails are a really fun way to transform wines into something completely different. I am not the biggest fan of white wines. I definitely have a preference for reds, but occasionally find myself in possession of a few bottles of white wine. This was the case recently, when I had a bottle of Riesling lying around.
I decided to pair the Riesling with vodka, simple syrup and strawberry jam for a delicious cocktail that doesn’t taste like white wine.
Jams are a wonderful cocktail mixer – they can serve as both the acid and the sweet in a cocktail. The trick with adding jams to cocktails is to shake it vigorously to avoid chunks of jam in the cocktail and disperse it freely through the cocktail and then straining it into the glass to serve.
To garnish, I added the Champagne Dipped Shari’s Berries. The Champagne Dipped Strawberries are beautiful and add the perfect level of sparkle to this wine-based cocktail. They paired perfectly with the strawberry jam and the Riesling wine.
- 3 oz Riesling Wine
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- 1 oz. vodka
- 1 heaping spoonful strawberry jam
- Into your cocktail shaker add: wine, simple syrup, vodka, strawberry jam and some ice. Place the top on your shaker and shake well until all the jam is evenly distributed.Add ice to your cocktail glass (I used a mason jar) and strain in the cocktail mixture. Garnish with a strawberry or Shari's Berries Champagne Strawberries.
