This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Pine-Sol® and Latina Bloggers Connect.
Today I had a chance to attend a Women’s Empowerment Lunch. With a great outfit and my business cards in hand I set out to network with like-minded women and maybe make a connection or two. The speakers at today’s luncheon all focused on empowering and supporting women. They talked about the different types of people they have met along the way towards achieving their goals; most often falling into one of two categories – those who supported them and those who didn’t.
As someone working on some pretty hefty goals myself I found the speakers’ stories to be filled with messages of determination, drive and resilience. I began thinking of all I had overcome while on my journey: the first person ever in my family to go to college, completing my graduate degree while working full-time and having a newborn to care for while working on my thesis, learning of dark family secrets as an adult and painfully experiencing those moments of rejection when those you love the most will make the decision to not support or invest in you. I couldn’t help but to listen intently to the speakers, like a sponge absorbing their words of wisdom. “When times are tough be the light. Even if you are having a bad day always try to shine,” said one of the speakers. Her words bolted through me like electric. It was the right message for me to hear at the right moment in my life.
According to a survey conducted on behalf of the makers of Pine-Sol® Products, women see the best female role models in their family (60%) and their communities (24%). Additionally, 65% feel they are currently a role model to someone in their life. I am surrounded by role models. I look up to people who don’t even know I admire them. They are not celebrities. They are regular women, just like me, who have gone on to rise above adversity and achieve their dreams.
To recognize and celebrate the remarkable women among us, Pine-Sol® is teaming up with actress and activist Rosie Perez to launch the ‘When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It ” (“Aunque El Camino Sea Difícil, Las Mujeres No Se Rinden”) campaign. From November 1, 2013 through January 31, 2014, women across the country are encouraged to contribute their own stories of triumph to Pine-Sol®’s moving collection of stories by visiting www.WomenRiseAboveIt.com or www.LasMujeresNoSeRinden.com. Those entering the sweepstakes by sharing their stories have a chance to win one of the following prizes: Once a week for 12 weeks, Pine-Sol will award one lucky winner small tokens of appreciation. (Flower bouquet + Pine Sol coupons) (ARV: $150); Three first prize winners will receive complimentary house cleaning services for a year (ARV: $2,400); and One grand prize winner will be awarded an all-inclusive trip to enjoy a peaceful spa experience at a deluxe hotel (ARV: $5,000). As part of the campaign, Pine-Sol® also awarded a $25,000 donation to Women Empowered, a nonprofit based in Los Angeles that connects, educates and supports women of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring them to give back to their communities.
If you are at a tough time in your life you can rise above it. Take the time to read the stories shared and submit your story of triumph and enter the Pine-Sol® “When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It ” sweepstakes.
In closing, I will share some of my most favorite quotes …
“It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you came from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always.” ~ Oprah Winfrey
