Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Our little leprechaun, Roy. G. Biv will be out and about this weekend delivering the one box of Lucky Charms allowed in my house during the year, turning random foods green and playing silly trick s on the boys. We will also make some fun Irish-inspired foods to go along with the holiday.
Around my parts of the world, irish potatoes are a common staple in stores and candy shops. Irish potato candy is an extremely sweet dessert-like treat made of coconut, confectioner’s sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and cream cheese. They are about the size of a bon-bon and are covered in cinnamon to resemble a potato. Oh Ryan’s makes the largest distribution of Irish Potatoes, delivering them to major chains and smaller candy stores throughout the nation, but for those of us in the Philadelphia-area, you can find irish potatoes everywhere.
I like to make my own irish potatoes around this time of the year. As I was making a batch, I started thinking. Irish potato candy would be a great combination for a cocktail or adult milkshake.
I grabbed a few supplies from my refrigerator and bar and began mixing up an original irish potato candy cocktail recipe.

Irish Potato Candy Cocktail
Ingredients
- 5 large scoops of vanilla icecream
- 1.5 ounces of Jameson Irish Whiskey
- 1/4 cup of coconut milk
- 2 ounces of cream cheese
- 1 TBS of Cinnamon
- 1 tsp of Sugar
- Dollop of whip cream optional
Instructions
- Combine ice cream, whiskey, coconut milk, cream cheese, cinnamon and sugar in a blender. Combine until smooth.
- Top with whip cream and an extra sprinkling of cinnamon for garnish.
