Have you decided what to make your Valentine yet? When it comes to my man I have one word for you – meat. So to satisfy my one and only I am planning a beautiful dinner that begins with Coffee Dry Rub.
I know what you are thinking, coffee as a dry rub for meat? Yes. Believe it. Not only does coffee add an incredible amount flavor to meats, its natural enzymes also act as a tenderizer. I like to use coffee grounds as a dry rub but you could also marinate your meat in cold coffee.
My Coffee Dry Rub uses a combination of fresh ground coffee grinds, cumin, chili powder and salt – it’s just that simple. Sometimes the best foods are the simplest and in the case of the Coffee Dry Rub this is certainly true.
- 3 tablespoons ground coffee - regular (not flavored)
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Combine spices in a small bowl until mixed evenly. Use liberally on meat of choice and cook.
While I like to use this rub with beef, it also pairs wonderfully with pork and chicken. It truly is a spice cabinet staple. Make a batch, use it for your meal and store the rest in a labeled spice jar or small storage baggie. Once you’ve eaten a meal prepared with a Coffee Dry Rub it will be hard to go back to the old way. Want a tutorial for a coffee rubbed filet mignon? For your Valentine why not serve up a beautiful filet mignon grilled a Coffee Dry Rub, a perfectly baked potato with sour cream and parsley and steamed green beans. You know what they say – the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and enjoy a day filled with love, laughter and surrounded my those you love the most.
