It’s here! The official start of the summer season on the East Coast, Memorial Day weekend.
Before I begin, I wanted to pause for a moment to recognize the holiday that is soon upon us. Memorial Day is truly a solemn day, but it is also a holiday of barbecues and family gatherings and vacations. So, this weekend, as we gather with family and friends, or enjoy a few extra days off, let us give remembrance and respect to those who have sacrificed everything to keep us safe. Thank you to all those who have served.
There’s something about Memorial Day that helps me catch my breath, take a step back and prepare to slow down and embrace the spirit of summer and its easy-living style. There is nothing I am looking forward to more than making my way to the beach, sticking my toes in the sand and sipping on a cold, tropical-like drink or nice, cold beer. Summer is definitely my season.
It has been a crazy few weeks here in GGG land. As the school year winds down calendars are filling with lots and lots of events. Since I also work by day for a school system my calendar is filled with key moments and events as my children finish the year as well as important dates for the schools where I work. To say I can’t wait for summer is a complete understatement.
A few weeks ago my oldest son completed a significant milestone in his life, his first Holy Communion. It was a joyous moment for my family and I have to admit, I cried, which then made my sister cry. To see my son up there, working so hard to pay attention and stay nice and neat in his little outfit made this momma bear pretty proud. There are moments in parenthood when you want to scream and then you have moments like this which remind you why it is all so very worth it.
Between preparing and practicing for Holy Communion, celebrating Mother’s Day and entertaining out-of-town family – all while working a full-time job and keeping with the day-to-day needs of my house and this blog I can safely say that this chic is ready for a four-day weekend.
But it will definitely not be all play and no work this weekend. Stay tuned as I have a special cocktail post coming to you this weekend and I’m sure lots of social media updates sharing some of the fun things we are doing over the weekend. I’m all about Instagram these days, so if you, too, think Instagram is the jam, give me a follow @GigGobGulp so you can follow along on my GGG adventures this weekend.
I hope you all day a very happy holiday weekend.
