On Saturday I had a chance to visit a local casual burger joint, Prime in Glassboro, NJ. Prime serves a straightforward menu of all-natural, free range, grass-fed burgers, made fresh to order with a wide array of toppings as well as French fries, organic crispy chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and hand-spun shakes. For our lunch, we ordered the triple burger, the veggie burger and the fried chicken sandwich complete with an order of (sinful) cheese-fries.
Prime, in Glassboro, NJ announces the addition of beer offerings. Prime has been in business for about two years and just recently starting selling beer so patrons can enjoy a cold one while enjoying their favorite burger. Prime’s all-can beer list includes 10 to 12 domestic and local brews, including Sly Fox Pilsner, Jack’s Apple Cider, Sam Adams Seasonal, Brooklyn Lager and Shiner Bock. The image above shows the beer menu on the day I visited. To complement our fast-casual food, I ordered a Sly Fox Pilsner.
Sly Fox Pilsner is a Northern German-style Pilsner brewed with imported German Pils malt and hopped with German and Czech hops. With an ABV of 4.9% ABV, Sly Fox Pilsner won the Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2007 and 2000 and the Bronze Medal in 2003. This Pennsylvania-based, straw-colored beer has a light, smooth flavor with that perfect bread-like taste you would expect from a fine brewed beer. The balance was perfect for my veggie burger and fries and reminded me of warmer summer days.
Prime is situated within the Whitney Center on Rowan University’s campus. Prime has quickly become a favorite spot for not only students and faculty, but the surrounding town of Glassboro. Its industrial-style interior, with exposed brick walls and reclaimed wooden floors, bar and long communal table in the center of the room all lend to its relaxed, casual vibe that entices guests to linger and socialize.
GGG Hint: If you go, order the fried chicken sandwich (if I go back I will top mine with BBQ sauce and cheese), the cheese fries and the Sky Fox Pilsner. Not in the mood for a beer? Order the cookies and cream milkshake.
Special thanks to Prime for inviting us for lunch and to try their newly added beer menu.
