My summer has gotten off to a great start.
I just finished a glorious one week vacation at the beach, the kids are done school and starting summer camp, and I have an array of fun things planned this summer including family visiting from Oklahoma, a concert, a live performance show and lots of entertaining with friends.
I love entertaining friends and enjoy the super simple style of summer – we eat outdoors, I make big-batch beverages and desserts and I keep a handful of summer recipes on hand that are my go-to choices when having friends over. One of the dishes I expect to be a favorite this summer is my grilled salmon with hot sauce marinade. It is a wonderful meal to prepare outdoors and is the kind of healthy, lighter meal my body craves during the hottest months of the year.
This grilled salmon with hot sauce marinade has rich, bold flavors that separate it from other grilled salmon recipes out there thanks to El Yucateco hot sauces. El Yucateco hot sauces, available at stores like Publix, give foods a special twist and vibrant coloring – all with a hint of spice.
For this recipe I used El Yucateco Red Habanero Hot Sauce which is made with fresh red habanero peppers, tomato, and select spices and seasonings. Other flavors of El Yucateco include the El Yucateco Green Hot Sauce and El Yucateco XXXtra Hot Sauce. The red habanero sauce is the perfect “all-purpose” sauce. It packs a little more kick than the average hot sauce and is a great fit for everything from a bloody mary (my favorite) to wings – or even your favorite grilled fish dish.
To make the grilled salmon with hot sauce marinade I began by preparing the fish to marinate in fresh garlic, spices, fresh lime and El Yucateco Red Habanero Hot Sauce.
My marinade can coat 4-6 salmon portions and offers just to right amount of heat to the dish and helps the salmon take on a deep, rich pink coloring.
Once the marinade was prepared I generously coated each salmon portion and refrigerated it for at least one hour (the longer the better).
After the fish was done marinating, it was then ready to grill.
If you love fish but are apprehensive about putting it on your grill, don’t worry, it is a lot easier than you think. My tips for grilling the perfect piece of fish are:
- Make sure the grill is preheated and is nice and hot
- Be patient when grilling your fish, making sure to only flip it once
- Wait until the fish has naturally released from the grill before flipping.
Once the fish was properly grilled I allowed it to rest for a few minutes before plating. I chose to serve my grilled salmon with hot sauce marinade with herbed guacamole, brown rice and an edamame salad.
- 4-6 salmon steaks
- 3 garlic cloves
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- pinch of adobo seasoning
- pinch of cinnamon
- juice of 3 limes
- 2 tablespoons El Yucateco Red Habanero Hot Sauce (more if you like it extra spicy)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- salt and pepper
- lime to garnish
- To make the marinade, finely chop the garlic and place in a bowl with the olive oil, adobo seasoning, cinnamon, lime juice, cumin and salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Coat the salmon in the marinade and place in glass bowl or dish and allow to rest, covered, in the refrigerator for at least one hour. Preheat grill to hot. Cook over medium-high heat until cooked through. To serve garnish with lime wedges.
It just doesn’t get any tastier than this. Fresh, wholesome ingredients and bold flavor from the El Yucateco Red Habanero Hot Sauce. The El Yucateco sauce enhances the flavor of the salmon and makes this dish far more unique than many of the grilled salmon recipes out there.
