GGG was on the go this week as we attended the first showing of Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai at the Atlantic City at Boardwalk Hall. Varekai will grace the stage for a limited performance from August 20 – 24, 2014 for seven performances only. After 11 years of touring the world under the blue and yellow Big Top, Varekai has begun a new adventure this past December touring the world in arenas like Boardwalk Hall.
The story of Varekai takes place deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano where an extraordinary world exists. A world called Varekai.
Varekai opens as the sky lets go of a solitary young man and the story of Varekai begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world imbued with fantastical creatures, a young man takes flight in an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time, in this place of pure and undiluted possibility, begins an inspired incantation to a life rediscovered and to a newly found wonder in the mysteries of the world and the mind.
The word Varekai (pronounced ver·ay·’kie) means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers. Directed by Dominic Champagne, this production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to those who quest with infinite passion along the path that leads to Varekai.
Varekai features exciting moments and moments of simple grace. The costumes are lively. The music is joyful and the experience is memorable.
The acrobats were my boys’ favorite performance of the night. The athleticism of these performers is simply magnificent. It such an experience to attend the show with my boys and experience the marvel of their excitement and the light in their eyes.
Purchase your tickets today at Boardwalk Hall’s website via Ticketmaster. This limited engagement of Varekai is not to be missed. Varekai is definitely GGG approved!
Complimentary tickets were provided to GGG to attend Varekai and write about the event.
