Baked Swiss Cheese Crisps

Have you ever had a cheese crisp?  If you are looking for a quick and balanced snack, which is also perfect for those practicing a low-carbohydrate diet, then you must try these Baked Swiss Cheese Crisps. Today I am partnering with Alpine Lace Deli Cheese to share with you one of my favorite snack recipes.

I work as a writer by day and spend my entire day sitting at the computer.  Sitting. It’s awful. Besides my general lack of movement during the day I’m also faced with other obstacles. I am tempted with baskets of mini chocolate bars (always with my favorites), endless baked goods and the lure of friends inviting me out to lunch on a daily basis.  Taco Tuesdays are often the toughest day to resist and who can blame me?  Tacos are awesome but not so great for my figure.  Instead, I stay at my desk trying to avoid the sugar and carbs and sitting. Sitting!

Today I came to work prepared to face the office snack wars.  I made a batch of Baked Swiss Cheese Crisps and paired them with some fresh tomatoes, sliced avocado and cilantro for a nachos-inspired balanced snack. These Baked Swiss Cheese Crisps taste just like a chip or cracker. I honestly felt like I was eating tortilla chips but instead of having that empty-bottomless pit feeling I actually felt satisfied thanks to a good dose of calcium and protein from the cheese. To think such crunch can be achieved by baking cheese is just mind-blowing. Who needs Taco Tuesday, right?

Now, if only it would warm up around here and start to feel like Spring maybe I could work on the sitting part and try to talk a walk at lunch every now and then. Come on mother nature, help a girl out.

Cheese crisps are incredibly easy to make and can be made with mostly any kind of cheese.  I am partial to making them with reduced-fat deli style cheese to keep the calories down without sacrificing on flavor or freshness. To whip up a batch of Baked Swiss Cheese Crisps you will need:

Alpine Lace Reduced Fat Deli Cheese (sold at the deli or pre-packaged)

Large baking sheet with parchment paper

Kitchen scissors

Garlic powder for sprinkling

Salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the sliced deli cheese into triangles and arrange on baking sheet as pictured below.

Before placing in oven sprinkle with garlic powder for added flavor.  Bake 10-15 minutes or until edges begin to brown and cheese starts to crisp up.  Remove from oven and allow to cool for 1-2 minutes.  With a spatula, remove from baking sheet and place on paper towel lined plate.  Sprinkle with salt to finish.  Pair them like I did or eat them with your favorite dip.
