In our house, fresh food rules.  As a huge proponent of cooking well, eating well and celebrating food, participating in the Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day seemed like a natural fit.

Food Revolution Day, held on May 17, is a global day of action for people to make a stand for good food and essential cooking skills. It’s a chance for people to come together within their homes, schools, workplaces and communities to cook and share their kitchen skills, food knowledge and resources. Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Day “aims to raise awareness about the importance of good food and better food education for everyone by focusing on three simple actions – cook it, share it, live it.”

For me, Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Day was the perfect excuse to work with my kids in the kitchen.  Once again, we reached for the Vitamix 500 Professional blender and the boys made their very own smoothies.

To begin, we stopped by our favorite local produce stand and the boys each selected which fruits they wanted in their smoothies.  After making their selections, we came home and gathered additional ingredients to create the perfect smoothies.

Here, Nolan (age 4) and Evan (age 6) walk you through the steps to create their own perfectly delicious fruit smoothies.  Aside from a little help chopping the fruit and pouring their smoothies into a glass, Nolan and Evan did the entire recipe by themselves.

They loved having me record them for their own little cooking show.  Check out their video below.

In our house, we try to make everyday a Food Revolution Day.  We hope you enjoyed this fun post, video and recipe and to create your own Food Revolution Day activities, visit Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Day site at http://foodrevolutionday.com.

PS – If you think the boys did a great job, show them some love either here or on Facebook.  They know I am posting their video and I promised to read them the comments.

  1. That’s just great! Awesome job boys! 🙂 My kids are smoothie-a-holics, and every time I see a Vitamix I tell them to tell daddy that I *need* it for more smoothies. 😀

  2. This was such a great idea. When you teach children the value of fresh, good food when they are young, it is a lesson that makes their entire lives better. Great job!
