Continuing on yesterday’s post, it’s day two of the 31 day March blog challenge. Today’s challenge is to talk about my favorite quote. This was easy for me.
I have used my favorite quote on my Facebook page as an introduction to one of my posts way back in September 2012. My favorite quote is by Dr. Seuss which is perfect because today, March 2, happens to be Dr. Suess’ birthday.
My favorite quote is “Why fit in when you were born to stand out.”
I have always been that kid. That person. You know what I am talking about. The one who has to do things just a little different. Not to be difficult or to show off but because it’s just my nature; I was born this way. I don’t color my hair wild colors. My style, although a bit bohemian at times, is pretty basic and I live a pretty normal life (work, home, play). But when I think about this quote, I think about things way beyond how I look and my day-to-day activities. This quote speaks to me as something a bit more intrinsic.
I have always played by my own rules – on my terms. I don’t always comply with authority (which wasn’t the best thing as a Catholic school student). I like to challenge others; their ideas, their decisions. I like to push others (mostly my poor hubby) outside of their comfort zone. Be different and continue to evolve.
As a mom, I encourage my children to also be unique and develop their own likes, interests and style (my 4-year old like to use colored gels and sprays on his hair and I let him). I encourage them to make their own decisions and I pray they make the right choice. I want to raise strong, confident boys who push the limits. Not in a dangerous, reckless way, but to truly believe the sky is the limit and to stand up for what they believe in.
So today, do something different. Don’t just blend with the norm. Afterall, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out.”

That is one of my favorites too! I’ve never been big on trying to fit in. I prefer to embrace my individuality. Much more fun!
