Yesterday’s Malt Monday Beer Review of the Week, Beer Bowl, focused on the Superbowl XLVII and its two contenders, the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. Continuing the theme of all things football in preparation for the big game, today’s post is a Super Bowl XLVII Themed Meal: San Francisco Rice-A-Roni, and of course, it’s homemade.
While in college I absolutely loved Rice-A-Roni. I remember my roommates and I thinking we were great cooks when we served up a plate of Rice-A-Roni. It was our go-to meal.
Not really needing an excuse for a themed meal, I wanted to play around with the whole San Francisco-Baltimore competition and come up with some food ideas that are associated with the areas – either by association or for their local fame.
Now sing it with me, “Rice -A-Roni, the San Francisco treat.” Blast from the past, right? You have to remember that commerical. If not, here is an awesome, little reminder, circa 1992.
I was a sophomore in high school when that commercial aired.
Yeah, you’re welcome.
Back to my love for the Roni.
My years of Rice-A-Roni lovin’ came to end when I graduated from college. I progressed in my cooking and moved on from box cooking to homemade cooking. Even with my improved culinary skills I never forgot about my fav, Rice-A-Roni. So, I decided to make my own version of Rice-A-Roni.
I am sure if anyone from San Francisco is reading this they are super bummed I am defining their awesome food scene with Rice-A-Roni. Believe me, I mean no disrespect. It’s all about the fun of Superbowl and the whole San Francisco theme. This recipe is so easy and was a definite winner with the family. While not total football food, if you are all about a themed meal (and who isn’t) and you are a fan of San Fran, Rice-A-Roni has to be on your menu for the big game.
