Food has the power to change the world.
One of the region’s most premier food event is celebrating a milestone. The 10th Annual Great Chefs Event, taking place on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 6 pm to 9 pm, will bring together dozens of high-profile chefs from across the country and around the world to Philadelphia’s Navy Yard for an evening of unprecedented access to some of the hottest names in food today – all in the name of charity.
The 10th Annual Great Chefs Event benefits Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Vetri Foundation for Children. Last year the event raised over $1 million dollars and featured over 1,200 attendees and chefs from around the world. Some of the fabulous dishes served included Marc Murphy’s shredded short rib, empanadas with fresh-cut herbs, quail egg with seasoned beef, thai basil ice cream sandwich and peanut butter cotton candy.
This year’s Great Chefs Event notable chefs include some new participating chefs, Matt Rudofker (Momofuku Ssäm Bar), Benjamin Ford (Ford’s Filling Station), Matty Matheson (Parts & Labour), and Tony Maws (Craigie on Main), as well as returning vets Jose Garces (Garces Group), Kevin Sbraga (Sbraga Dining), Daniel Stern (R2L), Michael Solomonov (Cook N Solo), and Masaharu Morimoto (Morimoto), Matthew Accarrino (SPQR), Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo (Animal), Jonathon Sawyer(Trentina), Marco Canora (Hearth), Alon Shaya (Shaya), Michael Cimarusti (Providence).
Plus… to mark the tenth anniversary, Marc Vetri is organizing a once-in-a-lifetime dinner at Vetri’s private dining room. In 1999, Marc Vetri was featured on the cover of Food & Wine Mag in the Best New Chef issue. He’s made a few phone calls and has contacted all the other chefs that were on the cover in 1999 and is planning a reunion dinner for 18 very, very lucky individuals. Each course will be prepared by one of the cover star chefs, which include: Paul Kahan (Blackbird, avec, The Publican), Suzanne Goin (Lucques, a.o.c.), John Besh (August, Besh Steak, La Provence, Domenica), Rocco DiSpirito (award-winning cookbook author of the Now Eat This! series), James McDevitt (Bohlsen Restaurant Group), and Dale Reitzer (Acacia).
